My love of music is definitely influenced by my mom and dad because they are both big music fans and collectors. There was very rarely a moment when music wasn't playing in our home. My dad has a background in electronics (among many other things), so he was often tinkering and fixing equipment. He also owned his own DJ business for a few years. When I was a teenager, my best friend and I would attend Hip Hop battles, which exposed me to the four main elements of Hip Hop culture: DJing, MCing, Breaking, and Graffiti.  Throughout my time in high school and post-secondary I focused my energy on my academic studies and dance. It wasn't until 2017, did I decide to join a DJing for Women and Non-Binary Folks course with Mamacutsworth, one of my local DJ idols. Since then I've been a practicing and working as an open-genre DJ who enjoys playing soul, funk, jazz, disco, rock, r&b, rap, house, dancehall, afro-beats, latin, pop, and filipino classics.

 

I have a diverse range of DJ experience that includes playing in front of small intimate parties, clubs, dance battles, virtual gatherings, in-person and virtual large festivals. As a trained dancer and music collector, my taste reflects my love of arts, culture, and history. A few of my favourite DJs include DJ Jazzy Jeff, EasyMoBee, Scratch Bastid, DJ Koco, DJ Shortee, and DJ Kuttin Kandi. Some of my favourite producers and musical artists include; Quincy Jones, Stevie Wonder, Bill Withers, J. Dilla, Queen Latifah, Q-Tip, A Tribe Called Quest, QuestLove, Missy Elliot, Timberland, Pharell, RZA, Notorious B.I.G., MF DOOM, Talib Kweli, Erykah Badu, Lauryn Hill, Common, Daft Punk, Beyonce, Kaytranada, H.E.R., Anderson .Paak, Ruby Ibarra, and Kimmortal. I strive to bring my personal touch wherever I am DJing, with an intentional focus on highlighting the excellence of IBPOC, female, and 2SLGBTQIA+ musicians, by blending classic hits and contemporary bops with turntablism techniques. My main goal as a DJ is to create a musical atmosphere that is welcoming and reflects the theme of the event.
